L'ouvrage, appuyé sur des travaux récents, s'efforce de restituer l'effervescence de ces possibles, pris entre nostalgie du passé, transmission de la Grande Révolution, compromis napoléonien, invention de l'utopie, aspiration à la démocratie sociale et à la vraie souveraineté du peuple.
Il donne à voir un siècle d'intense politisation, par le suffrage mais aussi la sociabilité, les rites protestataires, voire la violence révolutionnaire. Il montre l'extrême fermentation d'une société aspirant à la mobilité, travaillée par l'émergence du paupérisme et de la « question sociale » et les réponses contradictoires qui leur sont opposées. Ces tensions et cet apprentissage politiques sont aussi liés à des mutations de grande envergure, très inégalement rythmées et partagées, mais qui forment l'arrière-plan de ce paysage : l'industrialisation et la modernisation technique, la croyance dans le progrès scientifique, l'unification du territoire, l'affirmation de l'État, la sécularisation partielle de la société, l'avènement progressif d'une culture de masse, la construction d'un empire.

MÉTODO 3 de español, nivel B1, es un método de enseñanza intensivo / extensivo destinado a jóvenes adultos, con una estructura de unidad que permite adaptarse a las necesidades de alumnos y profesores y cubrir así las horas de una u otra modalidad (80-100: intensivo y 130: extensivo). Es una propuesta innovadora orientada a la comunicación y a los usos pragmáticos de las producciones lingüísticas, que pone el foco en el alumno y en su actuación eficaz en la comunicación. Parte de una experiencia formada en el aula. > La estructura del Libro del Alumno consta de 10 unidades articuladas en 4 secciones: - Contextos (inmersión en el espacio de comunicación) - Observa, Aprende y Recuerda (inferencia de los contenidos y reflexión) - Práctica (ejercitación secuenciada desde las actividades más dirigidas a las más libres) - En comunicación (actualización de los contenidos de la unidad en contextos de usos reales y cercanos para el alumno).
